ZINA, Lugandan for ‘dance’, is a 45 minute documentary shot on location in Uganda, a country with a vibrant cultural history, but devastating civil war legacy. The children of the Bitone orphanage witnessed the war firsthand; some were former child soldiers, some witnessed their parent’s death. Through a new program started by American and Ugandan university students, they are given a chance to perform in a unique concert for the Queen of Uganda.
The Bitone Dance Troupe is an organization that rehabilitates orphans and children who have been affected by the violence of the Ugandan Civil War, disease and economic hardships. It provides housing, schooling and trains the children in traditional dance.
